Start with beds. Keep the park days simple.

Kelly Inn suits families who want breakfast and pool time; Explorer Cabins adds a kitchenette. Choose the sleeping layout first, then plan one main sight and one optional stop each day.

01 · Plan

Choose beds before facilities

Compare the room configuration for every traveler, including whether a separate sleeping area really has a door. A pool is useful for an afternoon reset, but it does not compensate for a room that cannot comfortably fit the family. Kelly Inn and Gray Wolf list indoor pools; Explorer Cabins offers a different option with a kitchenette. Use your children’s actual ages in the Expedia search, because room eligibility and pricing depend on the party.

02 · Plan

Give each park day a clear purpose

A geyser day can revolve around Old Faithful and the Upper Geyser Basin, with another thermal stop only if everyone still has energy. A canyon day can focus on a viewpoint rather than a long descent. Pack lunch before entering so a delayed drive does not become a missed meal. Wildlife traffic and eruption waiting can make even short walking days feel long, so protect an unplanned break in the schedule.

03 · Plan

Pick a tour by age and walking requirements

The active Lower Loop tour lists a minimum age of six and includes the Grand Prismatic overlook walk. For younger children or a gentler pace, compare the classic sightseeing format or discuss a private day. Ask about child seats and the time between bathroom breaks before booking. Pick the day your children can enjoy, rather than the one with the longest list of stops.

04 · Plan

Keep one flexible town activity

The Grizzly & Wolf Discovery Center is a wildlife education facility in town, rather than a wild-animal safari. It can make sense on an arrival day or a day when a full park circuit is too much. Check its own current admission and opening information. In thermal areas, stay together on designated routes and boardwalks; treat hot springs as viewing sites, never swimming or play areas.

Before you choose

Planning with children

Is every tour suitable for children?

No. Minimum ages, child-restraint arrangements and walking requirements vary by product. Confirm these before paying.

Is a pool hotel or a cabin better?

A pool hotel suits families who want breakfast and hotel facilities. A cabin suits a group that values cooking and its particular sleeping layout. Compare the complete room or cabin offer.
